Exhibitions

At Ringerike Museum, we present a mix of permanent and temporary exhibitions, showcasing the history of Norderhov Rectory and the rich cultural heritage of the region.

Permanent exhibitions

Our permanent exhibitions feature rooms with historical interiors and stories that bring the past to life. Discover the tale of Anna Colbjørnsdatter, who helped defeat Swedish troops in 1716, and learn about the famous folklore collectors Moe and Asbjørnsen. Explore the region's role during WWII and admire an impressive collection of icons.

Temporary exhibitions

In addition to our permanent exhibitions, visitors can enjoy exciting new exhibitions every year.

Current Exhibitions

The Resistance Museum preserves memories and histories from Norway's war years (1940–45), focusing on the conditions within Milorg division D14.2 (Hallingdal, Hadeland, Ringerike, and Hole).  The exhibition provides insight into the German campaign through the area and the equipment used by both Norwegian and German soldiers. Visitors can learn about the supply drops, life during the war, and the events that unfolded during German attacks.

Located within Ringerike Museum, the Hønefoss Accordion Museum offers a unique insight into the accordion's history and cultural significance. Explore its evolution, discover rare and early instruments, and learn about its role in modern history. The museum also highlights the industrial heritage of Henschien’s Accordion Factory and the vibrant accordion culture in Hønefoss.

For more information and contact details, visit the Accordion Museum's website.

The summer flood of 2023 highlighted the enduring power of the waterfall Hønefossen, even in its tamed state. This exhibition explores the lives of sawmill workers by the river and how their small community grew into the city of Hønefoss. How did they live, and what shaped their daily experiences?

During the liberation days of May 1945, Norway experienced a wave of joy and relief after five years of German occupation. This photo exhibition, featuring unique images from the celebrations in Hønefoss, is part of the national commemoration of the 80th anniversary of Norway’s liberation. You can visit the exhibition at Munkestua, Ringerikes Museum, from May 11 to August 17.

The exhibition is curated by Buskerud fylkesfotoarkiv and Ringerikes Museum.
