Painting and hiking activities

Friluftsskolen

The outdoor school in Hagan has become a tradition; For 15 years, we have arranged painting courses for a week at the end of July.  After an international career, crowned with the French Salon's gold medal, Christian Skredsvig returned to Norway in 1885. He first settled in Bærum, but moved ten years later to Eggedal. Christian Skredsvig taught his Outdoor School in the summer of 1899, with the encouragement of the painter Harriet Backer, with the aim of teaching outdoor landscape painting.  In the summer of 2010, the Outdoor School was resurrected. Every summer, like Chr. Skredsvig, you can paint the beautiful view from Hagan with Solevann and Andersnatten in the distance.  The painting courses are taught by Jan-Ove Tuv and Helene Knoop (Nerdrumskolen) in collaboration with, great-granddaughter and site manager for Hagan, Hege Christina Skredsvig.  Course schedule: The outdoor school is for painters of all levels and ages. The only prior knowledge is the desire to learn! You can choose between a three or six-day course.

Åsfossen art and forest path

From Hagan, there is a marked trail to the waterfall Åsfossen. In 2001, the trail, which is a circular trail from Hagan and around Åsfossen, opened. The trail is about 2 km, and it takes about an hour. In the trail there are 14 information posts about artist stories, natural elements and the diversity of the forest. In some places it is very steep and it can be challenging to walk. There are some places with benches where you can take a break and there are several viewpoints.

Chr. Skredsvig painted Åsfossen in winter and the Swedish painter Ernst Josephson wrote a poem under the waterfall when he visited Eggedal in 1872, as the first painter before Skredsvig. Josephson was inspired by his most famous painting, Strømkarlen or Nøkken ( the water spirit) here at Åsfossen.
