Galleri Skredsvig, which is located in the newly built barn at Hagan, has since its opening in 2016 shown changing themed exhibitions with art by Chr. Skredsvig every year. This is to show the breadth of Skredsvig's oeuvre and give his art the attention it deserves. Skredsvig is the only Norwegian painter to achieve a gold medal at the Salon in Paris, and the medal is displayed in the gallery along with other awards.
In connection with the themed exhibitions, the museum has, in collaboration with curators and Orpheus Publishers, published a series of exhibition catalogues with texts related to the theme.
In 2018, the major biography and catalogue of works about Chr. Skredsvig's art was published by Orpheus Publishing. The book is initiated and financed by the Savings Bank Foundation DnB and the authors are Øystein Sjåstad, Kjersti Sundt Sissener and Anne Vira Figenschou. Sissener and Figenschou have been curators of most of the exhibitions in Galleri Skredsvig since the opening in 2016.
The French state and the Musee de Normandie lent us Skredsvig's gold medal painting Une Ferme a Venoix in 2020 and 2021.
In 2022, Victor Plahte Tcshudi was the curator of the exhibition Rome Built in Pictures, which showed paintings by Chr. Skredsvig and Eilif Pettersen from their winter together in Rome in 1882/83.
Through these exhibitions, we have been fortunate enough to show a whole series of major works by Skredsvig, such as the most famous, Seljefløyten1889 ( he Willow Flute), and Idyll,1888.
Since its opening in 2016, the enormous painting Ungdomsfest i Eggedal,1895 (Youth Party in Eggedal) has been on permanent loan from the National Museum. An edition of Djupsjøen and Aften på fjellet, owned by Sparebankstiftelsen DNB, is also permanently deposited in the gallery.
The vast majority of Skredsvig's paintings are in private ownership and owners kindly lend their paintings to our annual changing exhibitions, for which we are very grateful.
We welcome you to a new art experience in the gallery every year.
