About the Laagdal Museum
The Laagdal Museum is a cultural history museum for Kongsberg, Sandsvær and Numedal. The museum consists of 37 buildings, including several farm buildings from Numedal and a pleasant Kongsberggate.
The Laagdal Museum is located on Glitre farm's "løkkeområde" (a piece of land where the miner' families could grow vegetables and have animals), just five minutes from the city center of Kongsberg. The farm is the mining town's best-preserved mining official's home, and is today decorated with beautiful interiors which have belonged to several important historical persons from the town. Norway's only preserved tower barn (tårnlåve/arklåve) is located here, and in the summer season traditional livestock graze outside.
The main building houses many different exhibitions, including an exibition about local folk art and crafts, ceramics from the well known ceramist Rolf Hansen, and old shops and workshops from the area. Here you will also find Norway's only specialized museum for glasses and optics.
