About the Labro museums

The Labro museums covers many topics, for example hydroelectric history, log driving history and road history. The name Labro means the bridge over the river, and the museums are located south of Kongsberg in the scenic surroundings of the Labrofossen.

The Labro area also has an exciting prehistory. Burial mounds show that there have been people here since the Bronze Age. Below the waterfall you will find petroglyphs from the Bronze Age that are unique to this part of the country.

In January 1994, one of the walls and the ceiling of the power station collapsed. The owner, Drammen Kraft AS (now Å Energi), had to decide what to do with the building. The choice was between demolishing or rebuilding the building. In any case, it was no longer possible to use the power station for power production, and it was therefore found that future use of the building was limited to museum activities.

The museum was officially opened by Head of Research Per Einar Faugli at NVE with Crown Prince Haakon Magnus present in June 2000.
