Hol Bygdemuseum is situated at Hagafoss in Hol municipality and is built up like an old farm from Hol, complete with a tenant farm and a summer mountain farm. The museum was founded November 8, 1914, and has a total of 17 buildings from various locations in Hol municipality, most of which date back to the 18th and 19th centuries.

In the exhibition building, visitors can see displays of rose-painted items and traditional folk costumes from the area, showing how people in Upper Hallingdal dressed in the past. The museum also has two finely decorated rose-painted buildings: the house from Nestegard in Hovet, painted by Kittil Rygg (d. 1809) from Hallingdal, and the house from Raunsgard in Ustedalen, painted by Kristen Aanstad (1746–1832) from Gudbrandsdalen.

Hol Bygdemuseum is managed by Hallingdal Museum, which is also responsible for several other historic buildings in Hol municipality: Dokken Mountani Farm in Sudndalen, Prestestugu and Tingstugu by Hol Old Church, Nord-Hovet Old School, and a house belonging to the Øvrevollseie family in Hovet. We also offer guided tours of Hol Old Church.

The outdoor area is open to all outside regular opening hours, and guided group tours can be arranged by appointment outside of the main season. Feel free to contact the museum if you wish to book a group tour.
